Standard procedure, mixed with incompetent procedures. Sorry to say this is the norm nowadays. Ideally, when you registered with them they should have asked for all supporting documentation so that, heaven forbid, should they get off their backsides and find you a job, then all the procedures, checks etc that need to be done have either already been done or can be done there and then!.
I was even asked, at the age of 38, to provide details and certificates from secondary school (going back to age 9!)
