Just call me Secretary thank you...the wearer of several hats, travel coordinator, reception break schedule (Friday's only), file manager and support for several departments.

But Secretary works for me.

Officially my title is Administrative Assistant.  However, I never believed that the duties for that title of that level should include receptionist.  I work for a small company though, so for me that is bulk of my duties.  I also manage the office supply inventory, minor typing, payroll entry, subcontract preparation.......and anything else they ask (or tell) me to do.  With this variety of duties, I'd prefer my title to be Office Services Specialist - sounds more appropriate to me.  But when people ask what I do for a living, I tell them I'm a secretary.  No matter what the title, that's what we all are aren't we?

Executive Secretary.......

now there is Executive Assistant to the Pres/CEO

Executive Secretary to the VP Fiance

me to Director

Administrative Assistant to a Director

Administrative Assistant to a National Manager

there really is no rhyme or reason........at least I know there is a level above me to work up to.......unless I find other places in the company to locate myself.

I have often been able to choose my own title.

My past titles:

Executive Assistant/Customer Care Liaison

Technical Administrator

Information Coordinator

Currently:

Speaker - Author - Trainer...

President and CEO of my own (home-based) business

"providing executives with customized organizational systems, honed computer skills, and mentoring to develop a stronger partnership and more effective working relationship with their administrative professionals."

My job title is "just" secretary, that is: I do my admin work, and some special things, like booking private holidays for bossie, looking for a cleaning service for his private appartement, and buying gifts for his familiy. So, he sometimes call me his private-secretary

At my last job from you-know-where, my official title was Administrative Assistant, but in paperwork and on the job, I was referred to as everything from executive administrative assistant to secretary to clerk.  The company wasn't sure what my job was, and with all the titles I had-it was obvious!

My job title:  Program Specialist

And do they mean specialist.     I'm the Access guru and database developer for my division as well as any others that need help.  Of course, I also do the filing, typing and other secretarial duties so I'm not completely bored.

I'm a Secretary (Steno/OA).  My organization is trying to change all our Secretary titles to Program Assistant.  It won't change our jobs any..."A rose by any other name..."

Also, I only have a couple of promotion opportunities available in my current career path...Secretary to the Executive Director (he's an SES) and/or Secretary to the Commanding General (he's a 2-star General).  (I don't think either of these Secretary's titles are changing.)
