I have to vent. How could anybody treat their child that way. Has anyone seen the mom. That woman looks like she has never missed a meal, and she is punishing her child for "eating too much"? If anyone doesn't know what I am talking about, check out the Dallas Morning News article. www.dallasnews.com/metro/...13met.htmlEllen (very upset and pissed off) in TX

That is truly disgusting! I can't even call these people animals, because animals take better care of their young than that.

I don't normally post in here, but after reading that article I just had to agree with the vehemence I read in your post Elleny. How could someone do that to a child? That sicken sme... and to think that her husband allowed it for any reason... I can't even think of a suitable punishment for doing something like that to a child...

Sorry, my whole reply didn't get in, guess my computer is as angry as I am.
Send the girl to me and I will take care of her! Poor thing will never be "normal". Think of all the catching up she needs to do.
If she's the size of a 3 year old this didn't just happen a few times, this has been ongoing probably for her entire life.

And I find it hard to believe that the family didn't notice it before this. Don't they even realize something is wrong here?

I heard on the TV that they will be seeking the death penalty if there is a guilty conviction. Now I am usually opposed to capital punishment, but in this case I'll make an exception. What is sad is that some of us try very hard to have children, and never succeed, but these monsters are like rabbits, and it takes something like this to take the family away.

Ellen,
I thought you could only seek the death penalty in a murder case. Can they really seek the death penalty in a child abuse case? I never heard of it, although I think death is just what these people deserve for what they have done to this poor child.

You know that is what I thought too, but I do know that in some cases the death penalty can be given for other crimes too. Case in point, a serial rapist was just given the death penalty for raping a woman who was 8 months pregnant. Also, this is Texas, and (excuse me for being a little crass) according to some, we love to kill criminals. After all, we do have the highest rate in the country.
I feel very strongly about this, but I am trying not to get angry and start judging. That is not my job. I just pray that they will get what they have done 3 fold.
I hope that everyone that reads this post will go away with one thing...
The neighbors did not know that poor girl was there, and look at the result. I'm not asking everyone to start suspecting their neighbors of criminal things, but I do hope that people will pay more attention to things to don't seem right.

Death penalty is too good for these people. They need to be locked up in a closet with no food, water, or light and left to live in their own filth.

The saddest part is that this child was being adopted by another set of parents, but was awarded back to the "natural" parents when they changed their minds.
Unfortunately, it seems like in Ohio when a child is abused or killed, all the adult has to say is, "I didn't know it would kill him/her!" For instance, in my very small rural town, a large (overweight) man stomped on the stomach of a 3 year old boy and killed him. He told the judge "I didn't realize that would kill him!" and because of that statement, he was charged with manslaughter and then given time served (about 3 months) and probation.
Another case in our small, rural town, a drunk driver hit another car head-on, killing a young woman and killing the baby her sister was pregnant with. After some big payoffs by the drunk's family (which is being investigated) to the prosecuting attorney, which just so happened was best friends with the drunk's parents, the man served a total of almost 1 year in jail and was released. "I didn't know driving drunk would kill someone!"
I've seen this same type of "I didn't know" mentality being accepted in courts time and time again. It's disgraceful.
And ya'll thought living in a small town would be boring.

That really angers me. I mean, didn't it used to be that ignorance of the law was not an excuse? I was always told by teachers, parents, cops, and even a few judge friends that "I didn't know" does not mean that you should get away with it. Come on! How could you NOT know that stomping on a 3 yr old's stomach would kill him? Common sense would tell you that if it didn't kill him it would definitely severely hurt him. What is this world coming to?
