I have no comment, just wanted to pass along.  Gives you something to think about....

FORGOTTEN FACTS BY: PAUL HARVEY

Back in 1969 a group of Black Panthers decided that a fellow black  panther named Alex Rackley needed to die. Rackley was suspected of disloyalty.

Rackley was first tied to a chair. Once safely immobilized, his friends tortured him for hours by, among other things, pouring boiling water on him.

When they got tired of torturing Rackley, Black Panther member, Warren Kimbo, took Rackley outside and put a bullet in his head.  Rackley's body was later found floating in a river about 25 miles  north of New Haven, Conn.

Perhaps at this point you're curious as to what happened to these Black Panthers. In 1977, that's only eight years later, only one of the killers was still in jail. The shooter, Warren Kimbro, managed to get a scholarship to Harvard. He later became an assistant dean at Eastern Connecticut State College.

Isn't that something? As a '60s radical, you can pump a bullet into someone's head, and a few years later, in the same state, you can become an assistant college dean! Only in America!

Erica Huggins was the lady who served the Panthers by boiling the water for Mr. Rackley's torture. Some years later Ms. Huggins was elected to a California School Board.

How in the world do you think these killers got off so easy? Maybe it was in some part due to the efforts of two people who came to the defense of the Panthers. These two people actually went so far as to shut down Yale university with demonstrations in defense of the accused Black Panthers during their trial.

One of these people was none other than Bill Lan Lee. Mr. Lee, or Mr. Lan Lee, as the case may be, isn't a college dean. He isn't a member of a California School Board. He is now head of the US Justice Department's Civil Rights Division.

O.K., so who was the other Panther defender? Is this other notable Panther defender now a school board member?

Is this other Panther apologist now an assistant college dean?

No, Neither! The other Panther defender was, like Lee, a radical law student at Yale University at the time. She is now known as The "smartest" woman in the world."

She is none other than the Democratic senator from the State of New York ----our lovely First Lady, the incredible Hillary Rodham Clinton.

And now; as Paul Harvey says; you know (the rest of the story).

I was wondering what one would say to that.  How do we address this?  What do we think of this.  I think this:  It's convoluted.

One of my self-imposed functions is netlore debunker.  How do I do this?  I read several columns on a site called About.com www.about.com.  There they have a gentleman by the name of David Emery, who posts his picture as well, and he tells the world which email lore and Urban Legends are true stories and which are rumors or flat out hoaxes.  They have a staff who researches this.  This was a smear tactic launched by who knows who in 1999 when she announced her run for Senate.  I do not, however, believe this is all true.  I'd need to have a link on here for some better sources.

I've seen too many pieces of netlore thought of as truth.  Some of my favorites: Coughing cures heart attacks, tampons contain asbestos and everyone's favorite: the dreaded stollen kidney.

This is a smear email and far above us, as a group.  Can we get past all this"?

You go girl!  I too, am a netlore debunker.  I always check with the Internet Hoax pages - there are many out there and it always pays to check it out before you pass it on or post it somewhere.

Yankee, you rock!  I wanted to respond to this and just wasn't sure what to say.  You hit the nail on the head.

I, too, enjoy urban legends and netlore, and will check out David Emery as soon as I have another free moment (besides this one?  maybe next year!).  Thanks for the tip!

Losing my mind, still at work at 6pm in NJ, hopin' nobody steals my kidney...

Dear Fellow Posters,

As I said I really have no comment on this; however, I apologize if this post has offended you.  Personally, I like Hillary (for the most part).  I actually met her several years ago, as well as Bill.

I, too, check out hoaxes, but unfortunately it did not occur to me to check this one out.  I will send an email back to a person explaining how to check if the information is a hoax.

Again, I apologize.

Andrea, why don't you just delete it?

I guess what happened before in another post happened again, and I, as well, apologize for sounding a little strong as well.  This is a fault of mine, too.

To explain my thoughts, this month alone, 4 people that work on my project have asked to to "forward these emails because they're worth it."  Like the CPR cough and the asbestos tampons, people told me this was true.  I wouldn't forward it and got flack (an admin admonishing a manager, can you imagine?).  Well, when I found out the truth, or mark of rumor which means we don't know if it's the truth or since there's no real evidence, I was just a little tired of being the "only voice of reason".  I actually was told by a coworker to forward an email calling George W. a racist because of some out-dated fine print in a house that he sold years ago.  If you want more on that, about.com, but otherwise, I think it's a good lesson, for me as well as everyone not to believe everything we read on the net as well.  Just because the web page is pretty, or the email looks ok, it's still probably false.

Again, to you sungoddesslv, and to Andrea, about the posting in the other forum, I apologize.  I will cool my heels better in the future.

Another good site for debunking Net Legends is:

www.scambusters.org/

A great place to find out if your mug is really going to explode in the microwave or if a millionaire is going to donate money for a little girl's heart surgery.
