It's been known for a while now that a Windows PC is generally a much better platform for gamers than a Mac. Recently however, Valve and their online gaming hub Steam have begun supporting the Apple developed platform, porting across their own games (such as Half Life 2, Team Fortress 2) and encouraging other developers to do the same. This is obviously very good news for Mac owners who were disappointed by the lack of gaming support offered by Apple.
Apple have now responded by releasing a graphical update for Mac OSX, which will enhance support for 3D gaming and remove software bottlenecks in their operating system. The update will hopefully shrink the performance gap between a Windows based PC and a Mac running OSX, Valve say performance in different games could improve by anywhere between 15 and 120 per cent.
