According to new research by Eclipse Internet, many managers will not be switching off and relaxing on their summer break this year.
Many say they will stay on call round the clock to deal with business issues, despite being on holiday.
60% said that they will be in daily contact with staff and 17% admitted they would be available 24/7 to deal with any emergencies that might crop up.
Almost two-thirds of those questioned won't even take the usual two week break opting instead for just a week away or long weekends as they battle with tough economic conditions and tight resources.
"SME owners and managers are fiercely protective of their businesses and with the current economic climate don't feel comfortable being out of touch with what is going on in the office, even if they are supposed to be on holiday," said Clodagh Murphy, director of Eclipse Internet. "Luckily, mobile devices and remote email connection means that managers can stay in touch easily and try to make the most of their break with as few interruptions as possible."
All well and good - but we hope they have understanding families!
