A Hat Trick is a commonly used phrase to illustrate three of anything – though most associated with goals scored by footballers. However, the phrase’s origin is actually found in cricket. Traditionally, a team would award any of their bowlers dismissing three batsmen in three consecutive deliveries a new cricket cap. This would be known as a “hat trick”. It’s a very rare thing in cricket and much more common in football – that’s why we associate it with football.
