Bandied About
When ideas are Bandied About they are either put up for discussion or being mentioned too many people. So, examples include if people “bandied about the idea for a whole day before deciding not to go any further with it” and “The tales she bandied about all over town did his reputation no good”. The phrase originated in France and the game of Bander. This was an early form of tennis and involved hitting a ball backwards and forwards. Then, in the 17th century, the Irish invented a team game that formed the origins of hockey. This involved a group of people “bandying” a ball between them. The sport was called “Bander” because of the similarities between the French game and the new one. The bowed or bent stick used led to the term “bandy-legged” being used to refer to those with bow legs.
