Top Ten Tips for Self-Confidence Do you suffer from a lack of confidence, either in your social or business life? Thousands of people do. These top tips will give you the “edge” you need to meet any situation head on with total confidence and self-belief.

  1. Hold your head up.
What’s the major difference between confident people and introverted people? Confident people stand more erect with a straight spine and shoulders back, and smile when they greet you. Try changing your body posture; this sends a signal to your subconscious mind. Imagine there is a hook in the sky holding your head up.
  2. Make eye contact with people.
When we are shy we tend to look down or to the left and right. To increase your confidence in social situations look directly in the eye of the person you are talking to.
  3. Smarten up.
What happens if you are going out on a date or for a nice meal? You tend to dress more smartly, with the result being that you feel good about yourself. Put on a suit or nice dress: if you feel good about the way you look, you will feel good about yourself and this will show.
  4. Think of someone you admire as being very confident.
It could be a famous film star, politician or pop star. Notice how they talk, how they breathe? What’s their body posture like? Act, talk and walk like him or her. Imagine you are they and you will begin to programme your brain to automatically be more confident.
  5. Preparation.
If you are going for an important job interview or a social gathering prepare for the event in your mind. See yourself there and imagine yourself in the situation. If you are mentally prepared for all eventualities you will be more confident.
  6. Believe in yourself.
You’re a good human being with a strong sense of self-worth. Know that you have the right to be who you are.
  7. Be positive and think positive thoughts.
The second you start to think negatively change your thoughts to a positive, turning the “I can’t” to “I can” and the “I won’t” to “I will”.
  8. Learn from the past.
Don’t beat yourself up over it, learn and move on.
  9. Know your weaknesses and improve on them.
Make a list of your weak points and take steps to either change or improve them.
  10. Start as you mean to go on.
At the beginning of each day look in a mirror and say to yourself, “I look good, I feel good, I am good. I am loved, people love me.”
