This book is a TUC guide and is a workplace essential for staff and management.
If you sometimes dread going to work because you come home feeling ill, then maybe your workplace is causing your symptoms. Don’t sit and tear your hair out and think you have no-one to turn to for help. If your employer is unsympathetic then get a copy of this book and help yourself to improving your wellbeing.
The book covers many interesting subjects ranging from health problems, safety at work, bullying and what your rights are in the workplace.
When I received the book I thought it looked pretty hefty and would be heavy going but I was pleasantly surprised. The contents page lists each chapter with a brief description and there is a comprehensive index which allows you to dip into the book and find the relevant information.
It explores various health and social problems, is written in plain English and is easy to understand. You will find a list of symptoms, the possible cause, and how you can tackle the symptoms. It also importantly tells you what your rights are at work, your employers legal responsibilities and how to go about advising your employer of any problems. Each chapter gives further information on publications or unions or other bodies where you can get help and advice.
Several chapters give case studies which enable the reader to compare symptoms and then give serious consideration as to whether the workplace is contributing to or is the cause of the symptoms.
I would urge any employer to have a copy of this book in their staff room. If it helps keep your employees happy and healthy then it is a benefit to everyone. I certainly found it informative and will be putting my copy in a prominent place in the office.
