General Discussion / Admins 4 Admins / Re: Is anyone else bored?

yes, I am often bored. I could probably complete my tasks in one 8 hr work day and I work 40 hrs a week. I feel guilty sometimes because I'm often on the Internet. If I didn't have access to the Internet I would go crazy just sitting here. This profession is probably not for me but I have been with the same company for 11 years so I have made my way up the pay scale and receive ample vacation so I find it hard to leave. I tried finding a new job 2 years ago but had no luck, so here I am. The work that I do have such as filing and meeting minutes are really mindless so even when I do have work I am still bored. I wish I could give you advise but I just think it is the job that is boring.

General Discussion / Admins 4 Admins / How do I get out of this rut I'm stuck in???

Lately, I've been so bored and sad at work. I'm on the Internet more and am not happy with my attitude towards my work and co-workers. I am becoming very lazy and short-tempered and that is not how I usually am. I have worked for the same company for eleven years and this is really the only company I have worked for. I have been in this department for almost 4 years. I'm thinking maybe it's time for a change. Does anyone know how I can get out of this rut I'm in? Any books I should read for advise?

General Discussion / Admins 4 Admins / Re: new boss reading the newspaper a lot

wow...thanks for all the responses. I work in healthcare and he is at a director level. He is reading our local newspaper so I wouldn't think he would have to read it for his job. Not only does he read the newspaper, but he works on his on-line college classes, and checks out his favorite football team on the Internet. I understand every now and then a "mental vacation" is needed, but there are some things he could be doing. He often comes back from meetings groaning he is so busy, but then many times when I walk in his office he is doing these things. My desk is outside his office so I can hear when he turns the pages of the newspaper and it is many times throughout the day.

General Discussion / Admins 4 Admins / new boss reading the newspaper a lot
|

Hello, my boss has been in his position for about 6 months and I've noticed he is reading the newspaper often throughout the day. I'm becoming frustrated because I feel he is having me work on some projects that I think he could/should be working on. What is up? Is he lazy or not sure what he could be doing? Is it ok for management to read the newspaper throughout the day? Is this common?

Yes, my first job I took out of college I had much down time, so much that I could not stand going and ended up transferring to a different department because my days were so long. I should of talked to my boss, but I could tell he didn't even have much going on.
Now it is much better. I still have days when I don't have much going on and then days when I'm very busy. Maybe you can talk to your supervisor and ask for more responsiblilites

General Discussion / Admins 4 Admins / getting coffee for the boss
|
on: January 17, 2008, 05:36:50 pm

My boss has given his notice and will be leaving the company in a few weeks. There are talks that the company is going to hire a consultant until they can hire a new Director. This consultant they are looking to hire use to be my co-worker's boss. She said he use to have the Secretary get his coffee (in the cafeteria) and newspaper every morning. Is it me, or does this sound really old-fashioned and not right? Also, she said if he was in his paper files a lot that day and there were papers sticking out the top he would have the Secretary tidy them up. To me this sounds so silly and someone on a power trip. Is this normal?

General Discussion / Admins 4 Admins / xmas gifts
|
on: December 12, 2007, 06:00:22 pm

There are three Directors and one Supervisor who are pooling their money together and buying the staff in the department $10 gift cards. There are 60 something employees. One of the Directors asked me who is going to go out and purchase these cards. I felt like she was asking me because she felt it was part of my job to go out and buy these. Is this part of AA's repsonsiblity to go out and purchase the staff holiday gifts even though they are not from me? I am just as busy as Mgmt at work and outside of work.

General Discussion / Admins 4 Admins / second interview...how to get the most $
|
on: October 23, 2007, 02:14:55 pm
|
Ok, I had an interview two weeks ago and they called me back for a second interview. They asked me in the 1st interview how much I was looking to make and I told them I'm looking for a competitive wage and one that matches my years of experience. Now, I've been with the same company for 7 years and am a little rusty on interviewing. How do I get the highest salary? Do I let them give me a figure first? Edited by lulu7 on 23/10/07 02:15 PM.

General Discussion / Admins 4 Admins / had an interview....and now I have some questions
|
on: October 15, 2007, 07:35:32 pm
|
I had an interview last week and at the end the interviewer said twice that if I wanted to see where they were at with the position to give her a call. I've never been told that in an interview before. Does this mean I should call? Will it show that I am interested in the position if I call to check in? They will be contacting me the end of this week and I would really be fine with waiting to see, but now I'm wondering if I should call.
