It has been busy so it is a challenge but one that I think in the end is good for me as well as the admin world!

I am not in the UK, but I hope your peers give you the respect you deserve and hopefully much stays the same just in a new environment.  I can relate, something almost incidental is  happening now to a personal friend.  I will ask her (even though she is in the US).

Maybe you can take the time and get some new certificates for online training.  You might as well take advantage of the time, you never know when that will change and you go.. was I ever not busy??? :-)

We have a few in our office that fit the taking advantage profile.  Unless asked, I just let them bury their own grave.  At some point someone will see what they are doing.   We have one person who spends more time smoking then working.  I can't believe management doesn't notice.  If I am asked by my boss, I would let him know exactly what is going on, but if not asked... this is one issue I won't volunteer.

We have people that work from home on a weekly basis.  Every Friday or a set day.  I am not eligible.   It is on a case by case decision and depends on a bunch of things.  Anyone who is expected to be on the phone is not really eligible.  Customer Service, the support staff,  accounting dept.  The people (lucky ones) are the programmers, writers, project oriented departments.  I think we all should be able to, but that is how it is.

I have 10 days off per year.  If I get sick, I have to use part of that.   My past job I had 2 weeks vacation and earned up to 5 sick days per year.

My company still does an old fashion expense report.  My boss brings me his receipts, I tape them on a sheet of paper and log them into a form.   I would love to know if this is normal or has expense reports moved into the technology age?

I am going to disagree with the majority... just kidding!  I would not share what I earned the right to get, each person should get a fair share and what they deserve.  If a person did better than me, so be it they get their raise, I wouldnt expect them to give up some of theirs for me!

I took 3 days off last week and though it was a slow week, came back to 243 emails!  Out of those emails, 54 were junk or non  work related.   The first half of today was simply catching up after three slow days!   I just wanted to throw out.. when you come back from a vacation or holiday how many emails do you get?  (guesstimate!)
