Touch typing certainly allows for speedier production, I too gained RSA's - and many years ago, when last tested for speed - on an electronic typewriter may I add, was 81wpm - no mistakes. I would have thought 50-60wpm would be minimum required speed for touch typing. All the best in achieving the best speed you can. Pam Peer Moderator

This year our annual leave has been increased for long service. We have 20 days annual leave, plus 8 days public holiday as a starting point for all staff, increasing as follows: after 5 years and up to 10 years employment = 22 days after 10 years and up to 15 years employment = 24 days after 15 years employment = 26 days (based on a 5 day working week) The increase kicks in from 1 January each year - not part thereof. In the administration field - what targets or objectives have any of you noted, either in the form of project or numerical regarding milestones or goals, based on key performance indicators ? Pam Pam Peer Moderator

I would certainly NOT expand on 'best team effort' or any highlight any individual. In business we need to be all recognised as part of the whole team, ie each and every one of us works as a cog in the wheel, without the cog/s - there is likely to be a problem, small or large. I'm all for inclusion of each and every member of the team - all recognised for their part played in the running of the business, and let's not forget the CEO for their part either. I like the individual letter idea, and the next best in my opinion if you are to give anything at all, is a voucher so that 'they' have an option to purchase whatever they wish. Pam Peer Moderator

Hi This would certainly be good 'advice' all around the globe - hey, we all travel, or our bosses etc etc I'd welcome a global 'advice' sector - even if there needs to be "when in the UK....." or "when in France...." or "when in USA" type of thing. Actually any help goes a long way in helping each and every one of us I'm sure. Pam Peer Moderator

Keena Sounds to me like your new colleague either: a. hasn't picked up exactly where she was to be 'placed' or b. she hasn't been explained to exactly her actual place of work (ie on the other campus), but has at least a desk to work from - on occasion - when in your office, as required. I would suggest that you and she discuss initially to ascertain what she perceives to be correct, then if you disagree with what she says - take the 'problem' to her/your direct supervisor to confirm arrangements for future. Probably better done sooner rather than later - then everyone will know exactly what's what. I'm sure everything will work out just fine. Regards Pam Peer Moderator

I live in Scotland - and it can be coldddddddddddd, but then again in summer it can be hot, whatever the climate though, I think you adjust to wherever you live, and even when it's cold, it doesn't feel over-cold (if you understand what I'm trying to say). I'm with Countrigal on this, if I ever wear a skirt, they are always long anyhow, but I'd wear tights or knee highs. I do tend to wear trousers, and go barefoot if wearing sandals, good excuse to have a nice pedicure too!!! I saw another 'new' item of nylon last week, only a 'band' which protects the ball of the foot, where rubbing often occurs - as you said Countrigal - "what next?" Pam Peer Moderator

General Discussion / Sound Off! / Re: Week of May 3rd- partners in the workplace?

NO - I would not work with my partner. It would be very unlikely our paths would cross anyhow. Even if it were possible, I think it would never work. In my workplace it has always been discouraged for family members to work in the same office, although this would not be a factor if someone applied for work - just a preference. NO - I would not date someone in my workplace - have you seen them? Seriously though, I would not - never a good idea IMHO. Look forward to hearing others replies. Pam Peer Moderator

Welcome to "The Hub" sburks Unfortunately not all bosses/companies recognise the day/week. It is great to see that some do, and not only do they recognise the importance of this to the employee, but certainly do/give something special to them to mark the day. I am one of the 'unfortunates' that is not recognised, then again I am in a Managerial position nowadays, so don't actually expect it. I also run a home-based business, so I'm my own boss there - and decided to treat myself to a long soak in the bath with favourite bath bombs, some 'easy listening' music playing, candles burning........just felt thoroughly pampered, then later enjoyed a nice glass of wine. It's Friday, and conga-time so join in and and treat yourself at the end of the special week for all Administration staff. Pam Peer Moderator

Many moons ago I took a typing test when registering with an Agency, anyhow it was on an electronic typewriter and managed to clock 81wpm with no errors, I was offered a job with the Agency themselves!!!! I didn't take it, and in fact I've never taken a typing test since - surely I must be faster now using a computer keyboard. Good luck being sent your way on achieving employment.
