shift f3 for changing case when you suddenly realise you've hit the caps lock.

Don't know if it counts, but Radar from MASH.  In fact, my nickname in my first proper job was 'Radar' due to my uncanny knack to getting stuff done before the guys in the office knew they needed it.

19", 1280 x 1024, although I do change this depending on the work I'm doing.  I highly covet a wide screen monitor that our desktop manager has been 'trialling'.  It would be amazing for all the reporting work I do.

No. 3 is definitely relevant to me at the moment.  Over xmas we realised a small, as yet unidentified, leak is causing the lounge floor to come up.  Have finally sorted out all the insurance stuff, quotes, etc., and were about to engage the builders to start, when last night we discovered water is also coming up through the bathroom floor!  Oh well.  It could be worse...

5  General Discussion / Sound Off! / Re: Title vs. Money on: December 11, 2007, 02:28:52 pm
I worry that if I try to find an alternative position my 'official title' doesn't reflect what I actually do, so I'm looking for a new title (money would be good too, but I feel tied to my current company as my title is so out of kilter).  Due to have a meeting with bossie in next month or so, so hoping to get this one resolved.

I have a knack of doing this myself.  One particular time it was the entrance to a packed restaurant - so many people to embarrass myself in front of!  The whole restaurant seemed to be laughing at me, but at least I got a free beer.  I know it's bad, but it's so difficult not to laugh at accidents like this.

I'm an INTJ too!  Glad I'm not the only one.

They may feel that it is more benefit for you to remain with the CEO's PA if you need to liase with her over meetings, etc..  I was in a similar situation a few years ago when we had teams in different buildings (ca. 5 mins apart).  In the end bossie and I were in separate locations, but this actually worked quite well.  Like your directors, he was quite self sufficient so didn't need me at his beck and call.  The relationship I had with other staff in order to 'get stuff done' worked better with me being based with them.  Bossie and I would have meetings in the different locations and so would arrange to meet up face to face when we were around - usually at least once a day.

Also, they may know that the CEO has spoken to you, so haven't had the urgency to tell you themselves.  I'm sure they just don't realise how this all looks from your perspective (it doesn't sound like communication skills are their key skills).

10  General Discussion / The Humour Zone / For my sisters on: March 01, 2007, 06:49:30 pm
Just got this from a friend, so I thought I should share it:

A young wife sat on a sofa on a hot humid day, drinking iced tea and visiting with her Mother. As they talked about life, about marriage, about the responsibilities of life and the obligations of adulthood, the mother clinked the ice cubes in her glass thoughtfully and turned a clear, sober glance upon her daughter. "Don't forget your Sisters," she advised, swirling the tea leaves to the bottom of her glass. "They'll be more important as you get older. No matter how much you love your husband, no matter how much you love the children you may have, you are still going to need Sisters. Remember to go places with them now and then; do things with them." "Remember that 'Sisters' mean ALL the women... your girlfriends, your daughters, and all your other women relatives too. "You'll need other women. Women always do.
"What a funny piece of advice!'the young woman thought. Haven't I just gotten married?  Haven't I just joined the couple-world? I'm now a married woman, for goodness sake! A grownup!  Surely my husband and the family we may start will be all I need to make my life worthwhile!

But she listened to her Mother. She kept contact with her Sisters and made more women friends each year. As the years tumbled by, one after another, she gradually came to understand that her Mom really knew what she was talking about. As time and nature work their changes and their mysteries upon a woman, Sisters are the mainstays of her life.

After more than 50 years of living in this world, here is what I've learned:

THIS SAYS IT ALL:

Time passes.

Life happens.

Distance separates.

Children grow up.

Jobs come and go.

Love waxes and wanes.

Men don't do what they're supposed to do.

Hearts break.

Parents die.

Colleagues forget favours.

Careers end.

BUT......... Sisters are there, no matter how much time and how many miles are between you. A girl friend is never farther away than needing her can reach. When you have to walk that lonesome valley and you have to walk it by yourself, the women in your life will be on the valley's rim, cheering you on, praying for you, pulling for you, intervening on your behalf, and waiting with open arms at the valley's end. Sometimes, they will even break the rules and walk beside you...Or come in and carry you out. Girlfriends, daughters, granddaughters, daughters-in-law, sisters, sisters-in-law, Mothers, Grandmothers, aunties, nieces, cousins, and extended family, all bless our life! The world wouldn't be the same without women, and neither would I. When we began this adventure called womanhood, we had no idea of the incredible joys or sorrows that lay ahead. Nor did we know how much we would need each other. Every day, we need each other still.

Pass this on to all the women who help make your life meaningful.

I just did.

Living in London we often visit museums and galleries at the weekend.  What amazes me is the number of people who don't wash their hands after going to the toilet.  I really cringe when I see someone go straight from the cubicle to the exit, especially if I have to use the same door handle to get out.  It just disgusts me.  Similarly, the levels of germs on tubes and buses is pretty high, yet you see people eating food after touching the hand rails.  I always wash my hands as soon as possible after getting off public transport - hubby is worse than me and he carries hand wipes with him just in case.

What I can't believe is that our company still won't provide soap in the kitchens - I've been told to use the sinks in the toilets instead.  Ridiculous.

I think it would be useful if she could do a task from start to finish.  For example, she could use the stationery catalogue to create a template for the items you order most frequently?  Or she could do some research for you e.g. ideas for team building activities, etc..  Failing that, how about something more mundane, e.g. asking her to make some new lables for filing, or making a summary of important meetings and when the papers are due?  If I think of anything else I'll post again.

15  General Discussion / The Humour Zone / Re: How to call the Police on: July 14, 2006, 02:03:31 pm
I can relate to that one!

Many years ago my friend had just moved to a new town where she didn't know anyone.  The phone in the flat hadn't been connected so when she heard some people trying to break in at the back at 0300 she snuck out the front to phone the police.  Despite her being on her own in a strange town at 3am in her night clothes the police told her there was no one available to come out, but she shouldn't return to the flat and confront the men.  She was really upset and spent the next few hours in the phone box until she finally crept home to a burgled flat.  I felt so bad for her, but was over 100 miles away and couldn't help.  The Police apologised the next day, but that wasn't much good to her then.
