To keep from taking something personally is to always remember that you're not at home, you're not at school, you're at work -- it's always business.  You are there to do work, not to make friends.  If you keep that in mind, there shouldn't be any reason why you should take anything personally.

From someone who works deep in the heart of "high tech" country, everyone throughout the company says laptop.

I work as an administrative manager for a high tech company and I love it!  Contrary to what the perception is about computer people, they are definitely not geeks!  They are some of the most intelligent and fun people to be around.  Very diverse backgrounds.  Many challenges and a lot of opportunity for growth.  Pay is above average as well as very generous benefits and tuition reimbursement.  It's the first company that I've worked for that actually stresses the importance of education!  It's my dream job.  I hope you find yours too.

Regardless of the confusion over who is who, movinonup, it looks like we both will decline the offer to be a moderator here, but for different reasons.  I have been asked (and accepted) to be a moderator at a different site, one that I believe has the most "community" of any site I've seen so far.  Sorry but I just couldn't refuse.    Besides, I'd rather not "re-hash" old news about previous bosses and how they were soooooo bad.  What's the point?
