General Discussion / Admins 4 Admins / SAP/Purchasing

Was wondering....does anyone use the software "SAP"? If so, which module do you work with and what department do you support. We just switched over to SAP from JD Edwards and I would like to share my experiences with other admins who are using it.
Also, I work for the purchasing department and we are going through a lot of changes in our procedures. I am looking for other purchasing admins in here that I can exchange ideas with.
Thanks, venim102

Wow! I never expected this much response! I should show my boss because when I asked him what his policy was on issue, he didn't have one. He never came across this situation before, he always signed himself.
The letter I spoke of is simply introducing a new program to our suppliers. The ones he asked me to sign are for our smaller or secondary suppliers. The letter is no big deal, but there are 90 of them. Because he wants the letter to show his personal attention, we agreed to have me sign his initials only, type his name and title below it, then type both of our initials further below that.
I think you all have a good point under the circumstances you related this to and I thank you all for your input!

I know, it is the Fourth of July and I am thinking about work, but need to know the answer before I return on Tuesday. I took home my bosses signature so I can practice signing his name. He asked me to sign 150 letters for him next week. My question is, do I try to duplicate his signature or come up with my own for his name? We are sending out letters introducing a new program to our suppliers. He signed the ones going to the top 30 because they met with us last month and it is sort of a thank you for attending letter. The remainder, I was asked to sign for him.
Thanks for your help and Happy Fourth to all! venim102

I was working for the facilities and IT departments at a company when business slowed and the layoffs started coming. There were many times I was very bored looking for something to do to avoid a layoff. I decided to train myself in AutoCAD (the program was already in the system for facilities) and in Visual Basic (for the IT department) to provide more support, but I ended up getting laid off anyway.
A month later, the admin from the purchasing department at the same company called me to see if I wanted her position. She was promoted to buyer and needed a replacement. At first I was hesitant (I guess I was still holding a grudge), but when we met and discussed the role, I accepted. They took me back at the same rate and bridged the gap as if I never left the company. Now I love my job because it is sooooo busy and so important. My goal is to learn the trade and move up to buyer one day!

Thanks everyone!
I was starting to feel the same way. It is easier to just peel and stick. I thought maybe they gave you a break on the cost of postage, but I guess not.
Almost Friday!

General Discussion / Admins 4 Admins / Postage Meters

Hello Everyone!
I am in the process of starting a business on the side that will require mass mailings. Has anyone ever gone through the process of obtaining a postage meter? If so, where did you go, did you rent or buy, and how much is the postage? Do they charge less with a meter based on quantity or is it the same as regular stamps? Any information is helpful.
Thanks, venim102

I used to have the same problem. Here's what I did:
Had the cabinet moved to an area where I can see it.
The only items in the cabinet: pens(red, black and blue papermate stick pens), pencils, paperclips, binderclips, staples, highlighters, permanent markers( red and black), 1" and 2" binders, file folders, hanging file folders, transparencies, notepads, and post-its (3 x 3). This cabinet is not locked.
The other items, like blank cds, floppys, staplers, mousepads, dry erase markers and cleaners, batteries, white-out, calculators, special pens (the more elaborate ones from stick pens) and clik pencils, etc. are kept in the other cabinet under lock and key.
The paper is stored in its original boxes on the floor by the copier.
I would never have the time to get up and unlock the cabinet every time someone needs a pencil or pen.
I used to order supplies twice a week, now I am down to once every other week!

General Discussion / Admins 4 Admins / Activities Anyone?
|
on: October 17, 2002, 12:50:00 am

I just recently joined my company's activity committee. I was wondering if anyone else has been involved with this with their job. We try to do activities for just about every holiday and do things like golf tournaments, raffles and contests.
There are a few things about the company that makes it difficult to come up with some sucessful ideas. It is a large plant with 700+ employees. The plant runs 24/7 so we have multiple shifts. Safety is a huge concern, of course, and part of the plant is a cleanroom environment.
We also have trouble getting people to participate. A pumpkin carving contest turned out 12 entries the first year, half that the next year, and only 4 last year. We skipped it this year and will do a "Guess how many candy corn is in the jar" contest.
There always seems to be a big turnout for food. The company paid for a Thanksgiving luncheon the past couple of years and will do again this year. The Christmas party has been cancelled again due to budget cuts. We are trying to come up with ideas to keep the Christmas spirit going. We thought about raffleing off some gifts.
Three years ago we sold raffle tickets and not too many people bought them. The following year we gave out free bagels while selling the tickets sold four times as many. An auction was another idea that worked out great. We used the money to buy lunch for everyone (sandwiches, chips, salads, and soda). Food. Again, big turnout there.
Anyway, was wondering if anyone has this experience in this type of atmospere and any ideas are greatly appreciated!

Do any of you work for an employer that offers incentives for participating in a rideshare program? Especially on Ozone High Pollution Advisory days?
We are not having much sucess with it and I made a few suggestions. I asked that they place a map in the cafeteria showing the area zip codes and how many employees live in each. This may motivate people to network together on this. I think many are too lazy or busy to call HR and make the arrangements.
Also, the incentive is donuts for the winning department. However, most departments buy donuts on fridays anyway so this doesnt motivate either. Does anyone have any other suggestions? It must be relatively inexpensive and easy to administer. The largest department has 30 people.
Any ideas are greatly appreciated! venim102

General Discussion / The Humour Zone / Looking for Joke

There was a joke that circulated the net about a newcomer to Arizona from California. Something about enjoying the weather and then cussing it out when the heat kicked in. Ended with "going back to CA"
Anyone remember this one? If you have it, please post.
Thanks, venim102
