I understand the safety person "no no" on the space heater...

Try wearing a long sleeved cotton knit cardigan.  I have lots of these in various colors and styles to go with my outfits and they look nice, too.  You can easily take them off and on, depending on how cold or warm you get.  I usually never have problems with cold hands when I'm wearing one of my long sleeved cardigans.

Take care!!!

I think I'm about as far north as you can get.  Although the temperature inside our office is pretty toasty and warm, I don't have the best circulation and my fingers get cold sometimes.  One thing that keeps my fingers from cramping up is to wear a cotton knit cardigan sweater that goes all down the length of the arms - if your arms are warm, then your fingers will probably stay warm - it works for me!!  Another thing that helps me is to run my hands under warm water faucet for a few mintues.  That warms my hands up nicely!  You could also consider purchasing a small space heater that sits on the floor directly under your desk.  This will keep your immediate work area toasty and these little space heaters are inexpensive.

Hope you warm up soon, Jadegrniiz!!

6  General Discussion / The Humour Zone / Try to have a little fun each day. It's important. on: December 12, 2002, 06:15:10 pm
Jadegrniiz, I read your post about getting the traffic ticket and thought you might enjoy this joke my sister sent me yesterday:

I went to the store the other day, and I was in there for only about 5 minutes. When I came out there was a darned cop on a motorcycle writing a parking ticket. So I went up to him and said, "Come on, buddy, how about giving a girl a break?"  He ignored me and continued writing the ticket.  So I called him a pencil-necked Nazi. He glared at me and started writing another ticket for having worn tires! So I called him a piece of horse s--t. He finished the second ticket and put it on the windshield with the first. Then he started writing a third ticket! This went on for about 20 minutes.

The more I abused him, the more tickets he wrote.

I didn't care. My car was parked around the corner.

I try to have a little fun each day. It's important.

8  General Discussion / Admins 4 Admins / Somehow I KNEW this was perhaps tricky question!! on: December 12, 2002, 12:20:01 am
When I read Bridget's question, the first thought I had was Hmmm... could this be a trick question?  Anyway...it seems that it was!  I remember about a year ago talking with our accountants here at work about using K and M.  (Their acocunting reports specifically use K for "thousand" and M for "million") -- K and M are completely different languages, so to speak... "Kilo" is thousand for metric and M is thousand for Roman Numeral.  Anyway, I just did a search and found some interesting information about the use of K and M with regards to accounting and numbers.  From what the professor in the article states, (in the attached link), the use of M is confusing and shouldn't be used for "thousand" in accounting any longer ...(apparently it's the old school way of writing it, but no longer used because of confusion between the more popular and widely used metric system)  (see link below for details)

So... I guess we were wrong (Roman numeral-wise)...but we were also correct (with new way of using the M symbol for million), too!!  [smile}

Hi Chevygirl,

Good advice from the others.  My two cents: However, I think you are being placed into a situation that could get a little sticky, or really sticky.  I think it's perfectly OK that you are delegated to follow up on status of this person's tasks, but I think there needs to be a process established to do this (between you and bossie) and the person you are following up on should be informed of the process, too -- otherwise, I fear that if things get out of control, communication of status on all outstanding projects is not shared between all parties, then the process will not work and then $#!+ could hit the fan and you might be in the line of fire - stuck right in the middle.  You better find a way to CYA or the floor could get hot.  You're just trying to do your job but I see some red flags that could backfire.  Good luck!

Hi Georgina!

Ohh, I know what you mean about wanting to say something but lips are sealed.  In our line of work, we hear lots of things, but can't repeat it to anybody.  Hey, a point of trivia about the word "secretary" that someone told me a while back - it is a latin origin and definition is "holder of secrets."  Ain't that the truth???

Getting back to your question about interest in going redundant - That's the power of knowing secrets that you are entrusted with...It never hurts to voice your interest, but only speak directly with the person who shared that secret  with you.  Good luck!
