Thanks Gee.
I think i read somewhere, possibly here that you have to take a few steps backwards to really move forwards and I keep trying to remember that and apply it to my job here.
Complaints about my line manager which came to the fore have generally been ignored and even though she is making a big effort to be nice, cant help thinking it wont last...
Thanks chick, will let you know how I get on, x

General Discussion / Admins 4 Admins / Job Dilema

So after four months of really not settling and feeling unhappy, Ive finally got an interview for a PA job of the same pay but with less future prospects. Its even a bit of a step down, less responssibilities etc. You would think I would be thrilled. Despite my unhappiness in my current job Im wondering if it will be the right decision to move. Whilst line manager is truly horrible , bitchy co-workers, more stress than the job is worth, cried through my first appraisal, jobs quite repetitive, just endless meetings, the guy Im PA to could open a lot of doors for me and sods law Ive actually enjoyed the past couple of days here, organising a big trip etc.
I just have this nagging feeling that If I leave i will regret it in the future but am pulled by the unhappiness I have felt every day for the past four months...
Should I stay and hope I get happier or cut my losses?
Advise from wise ladies of desk demon sought and much appreciated, xx

I really sympathise with you. And hope so much you resolve this. I am currently experiencing the same problem, my admin line manager is gossipping to my coworker (and trusted friend) about me. Coworker has warned me. I cannot confront manager for fear of betraying co-worker's confidence. And Im new and was desperate for this job. I dont want to involve the Directorr who I am PA to. Figure I'll just keep my head down and ignore the Manager. Rise above it as all you ladies seem to say to do. I'll just continue to cry in the car on the way home, ha. And always remember that if people say horrible things about you then they musnt like themselves very much.

have somehow manged to land myself dream PA job, except iI fear Ive made myself sound better in my application and interview than I actually am. And now Im struggling horribly, the guy Im PA to (at Director level) lovely well respected guy and I feel like he genuinely deserves a better PA. For all the will in the world and enthusiasm cant hide the fact that Im a forgetful, two finger typer with only a basic knowledge of Outlook. Its full on diary management and I struggle so much.. How can I continue to fake it when every day Im faced with soo many challenges. Its not a confidence thing, its a reality check. Being a PA at Director level is a big step up for me, salary wise but I dont feel ready for it.. : (

General Discussion / Admins 4 Admins / Greeting people as they arrive to a meeting

Just curious, and yes for those of you who have read my previous posts im sorry but I know Im overposting, its quiet in here and Im leaving my crap job soon to get a real PA job so have a million questions in my head!! And also Ive only just found this fabulous site : )
My questions is when you are attending a meeting that you will be minuting, arranging the refreshments for, how do you greet people arriving. Do you just sit yourself down and hand round your attendance sheets or do you stand at the door and take everyones names. What works best for you? Also if your coffee is in the middle of the table, do you let them help yourself or do you pour it for them?

Had your boss ever blamed you for one of his mistakes, when you never made the mistake in the first place.
Do you take it as another aspect of the role or does it infuriate you beyond belief.
My soon to be ex boss gave me verbal instructions which I carried out which caused quite a lot of annoyance to our sister company. On hearing of the upset he claimed he never said it. Cant describe how angry I feel right now. Ive dealt with the "..oh my secretary never passed on the message before and usualy take that on the chin, even when I have actually passed on the stupid message, but this...grrr

General Discussion / Admins 4 Admins / How do you take minutes when you dont know the attendees names?
|
on: December 08, 2008, 11:06:22 pm

Due to start a new PA role in the new year, very excited, big opportunity for me. It will involve a lot of minute taking at Executive level.
I currently take minutes in my current job but not very often, when I do I pass round an attendance sheet at the start of the meeting, sometimes however when they arrive late and the meeting is in full swing they do not complete this and its hard to catch them. I find my minutes read "man in the blue coat commented and the motion was seconded by frizzy red hed" Not the slick professional approach I was aiming for.
How do you get past this.
