Gate Keeping Concerns
«

I just found this website! It is so full of information! I also just moved into a more senior level job. I don't report to the C-level, but will be supporting two directors. Part of the position will be answering their phones. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to start gate keeping? Should I find out from each who they want to talk to? I hope it comes with time, but I am guessing I will have to ask .. who is speaking because I will have no idea who is who! This is my biggest fear, (well not fear.. but concern ..) any suggestions?

Welcome aboard!
I would certainly start by having a conversation with the directors as to how they want their phones handled and how much screening they want you to do.
I definitely say something like "Whom shall I say is calling? and "What is the nature of the call?" when I am in gatekeeper mode.
However, I let the boss set the tone for whether they consider these calls interruptions or not.
Fortunately at my company, the phone calls are actually quite rare these days.
