I wanted to share my Christmas Miracle with you all. My Pug became ill two weeks ago, so much so that she went outside under a tree a laid down. She would not come back in the house until we carried her in. I wrapped her up and took her to our vet who we have taken our pets to for over 20 years. She was vomiting, not eating, drinking alot of water and urinating constantly. He kept her for 5 days, and ran tests. Her kidneys, pancreas and other organs were swollen so much her belly was distended. After 5 days and $1500 he said he needed to keep her 5 more days. There was improvement, but not as much as he had hoped. I talked to my husband and he said we would have to put her down due to the cost. An additional $1500 was just not feasible at this time for my 13yr old Pug. I could not get the words out of my mouth and broke down, crying at work. I told him he would have to call and talk to the vet. The vet told him he did not agree with the decison, that he felt he could save her. He said to let him keep her for 5 more days. He would not charge us. IF after that time he did not see any improvement, he would let us know and agree with our decision. 5 days passed and we visited her at the animal hospital. Everytime she wanted to come with us. She made a miraculous turn around. When we took her in her glucose level was at 600! After the treatment, her level had dropped to 118. We give her insulin shots twice a day now. She is like a new puppy, running and jumping like she used to. I am thankful to have the vet I have who really does care for animals. IF not for him and his staff, I would not have my beloved dog this Christmas.

By the way, statistics show that 1 in 500 dogs become diebetic. I had no idea.

Thanks for sharing that. We had a situation our puppy of 3 years (ok not puppy, but is to me!) was shaking in the middle of the night and we wanted to take him to a emergency pet, one vet really cared and stood out over many that were just about .. give me the money then we will talk. Pets are such big part of our lives, I am glad you have a vet that cares.
