I hadn't heard of that one Susan, so am looking forward to hearing what you think about it (and the movie).

I read Revolutionary Road and then saw the movie (unusal order for me) and was really disappointed by the film - does anyone else find they have a preference for read first watch after or vice versa?

My current (fiction) read is Bernard Cornwell Azincourt and I am about to start a Stephen Jay Gould Book - Life's Grandeur. I'll aim to add a review towards the end of the month.

I have been disappointed by televised versions of books. I have been reading the No1 Ladies Detective Agency novels by Alexander McCall Smith and really enjoyed them. Then they made them into a TV series. I was so disappointed - they created new characters, intertwined several plots and even changed the appearance of characters. It took me a while before picking up the next volume in the series to read - so I will not be watching a televised version again as it spoilt the 'intimacy and connection' I had developed with the characters while reading. Although others who had not read the book/s enjoyed the programme.

I agree with Denise. I can't think of ANY movie that is better or even close to the book. The free download book, Darkfever, the author sold "options" for a company to make a movie if they wish. I hope they don't. It would not be the same. I would actually dread it! Look at DaVinci code, Harry Potter.. books are both much better.

I'm inbetween many books right now, the one I' most into however would be the Kite Runner, which I want to see the movie of but refuse to untill I've read the book.

Okay so I loved Azincourt - if you like good historical fiction and you are interested in British/French history this will probably appeal. The battle scenes are graphic and frequent which may deter those of a gentle disposition but I didn't find them out of proportion. The best aspect of the book for me was that the story was told through the eyes of one main character, who although based on a real longbowman was fictionalised for the book. I would read more by this author.

I didn't love Life's Grandeur but it was interesting and I am glad I read it but wouldn't be rushing to buy more form Gould.

My current fiction read is The Russian Concubine by Kate Furnivall. I'll update you on that one soon.
