At a time when conventional working practices in the office are constantly evolving, the role of the PA/secretary is constantly being called into question. However, the findings of this unique research have not only highlighted the importance of good organisation to a company's profitability - they confirm in many cases, it is the PA's organisational abilities that are holding the business together. 29% of respondents said they relied totally on their PA/secretaries to keep them organised and 26% let their PAs do all their filing, because they didn't trust their own ability to do it themselves.

Better-organised employees are more productive.

Almost two thirds of proprietors and directors of companies interviewed said that lost documents and poor organisation had the greatest negative effect on their businesses to the extent that it was literally losing them money. Over a third of respondents said they frequently couldn't find things in the office. 57% said working at a cluttered desk bothered them and 54% agreed that better organised employees are more productive and that good organisation saves money.
Misplaced documents seem to be a common costly problem. But it's not just things that people lose - it's time. The lament of being 'time poor' as a nation is not surprising, considering that a third of us wastes up to half an hour each time we misplace items.

Women are better organised than men.

There was confirmation of the age-old suspicion that women are more organised than men! 83% of female executives thought they were better organised than their male counterparts, although 60% of males disagreed!

The research emphasised the need for good organisation in the office for optimum productivity. It also highlighted that although there is a relatively high degree of dependency on PAs/secretaries for the smooth running of the office, there are still time when documents and other items are lost. This, in turn, can only bring the important role that PAs play further into the spotlight.
