One of the reasons the role of the PA has evolved in the way it has, is because PAs have made a conscious decision to train and learn, so boosting their skills and experience base to an ever-higher level. You have not necessarily done this exclusively by taking courses and reading books; many of you have been willing to learn new responsibilities on the job, or taken on projects and worked on committees.
There is no doubt that in the future, it will be necessary for all of you - whatever sector you're in - to continue your development, and, more importantly, to take responsibility for it. The world won't stand still; neither should your level of skill and knowledge.
Make the most of these pages. Get active and find out what training and learning opportunities are available in your area. RDAs, together with Learning and Skills Councils, are making tremendous efforts to promote the importance of the UK having a skilled, trained workforce and to respond to employers' training needs. More importantly, you owe it to yourself to keep your skills sharp and ready, a cut above the rest. Let your voice be heard with regard to your training needs. If it isn't, make a conscious decision to learn and train anyway. You owe it to your career and your future.
