VENUE FOCUS : Scotland 's Capital

Edinburgh is a thriving city, and is a massive tourist destination for both leisure and business travellers. With its mixture of unique historic and modern venues, and plentiful hotel accommodation, Scotland 's capital is a very popular destination for conferences and events. This month we look at a selection of the venues the city has to offer.

Royal College of Physicians Royal College of Physicians
The College was established by Royal Charter in 1681 and amongst its facilities it boasts one of the most important historical medical libraries in the world. Its conference centre, built in 1986 to commemorate the centenary of the College, is located within the historic Queen Street premises, and conveniently situated in Edinburgh's city centre. The Conference Centre comprises an air-conditioned lecture theatre with 300 seats, all of which have fold-away writing tablets and full viewing capability to the stage and projection area.

The college has four rooms for meetings or workshop groups ranging in capacity from 15 to 35 theatre style, and 10 to 25 board room style. It also boasts the Cullen and Davidson Rooms, designed by Robert Adam and restored to their original style and condition. The rooms can host 24 and nine people respectively, for dinner. The Duncan Room is suitable for meetings and working lunches or suppers for up to 18 people and has video and overhead projection facilities.

Built in 1865 and upgraded in 1994, the Great Hall, with its impressive columns and ornate friezes, offers a splendid setting for a variety of events. It will banquet up to 200 guests or accommodate 250 at a reception, depending on which room the pre-dinner drinks reception is held in.
