Title: Do you want the job or NOT -- UPDATE
Post by: Katie G on February 21, 2005, 09:20:28 pm
Heaven help me, I'm so mad I can hardly see straight!

Bossie is at an all day conference.  New hire is here in the EMPTY office.

I don't need to tell you that Mr. Ops Guy is now trying to pin this on.....ME!

GOOD GRIEF!  HOW MANY TIMES DID BOSSIE TELL OPS GUY THAT THIS WAS A PROBLEM????!!!!

And NOW, I'm getting snippy voice mails from "up the street" (Bossie's bosses) wanting to know "why didn't you say anything when nothing was happening."

OMG I'm shaking I'm so mad.  Didn't say anything, INDEED!  I've BEGGED for information and offered to do ANYTHING necessary and we were basically told that it was being handled and to (not in so many words) "siddown and shaddup".

NOW Ops guy is calling ME EVERY 20 MINUTES wanting "updates"!

Good thing I brought a packet of hot chocolate.  I may have to go out on the roof for a bit to cool off.

Fortunately, new hire has been perfectly lovely about it all.  She's been a real sweetheart.

Ugh.  I need that chocolate-- NOW.

Updates on what exactly?  I read your previous post on this matter, Didface.  I'm so sorry that you are in the situation.  I would have my hot chocolate and write my boss a memo about this, if I were you.

Cyberhugs ...

I do hope you kept copies / file notes on the entire thing.  Send that to Ops guy to put in his pipe and smoke.  It would at least give him an update on exactly what he failed to do and how many times you had asked etc.  Also send copies to you boss, his boss and the new guy.

Vindictive but so nice too.

I agree, send him a copy of your notes and copies to your bossie's boss on behalf of your boss.  If I remember correctly, you gave those notes to him so since he is gone, I see no problem in acting on his behalf to bring his boss up to date on the situation.  (However, I don't work for a large corporation and am lousy at the office politics game - which is why I won't work for large corporation.)

At least the new hire is apparently aware that this isn't your doing.  Its a shame she has to start a new job with such a bad impression of your company's internal procedures.

Heh.  Bossie came back from his conference early and gathered up the file with all the emails, phone messages, etc and marched up the street with it last night.

This morning, I have this oozing email from ops guy apologizing and falling all over himself with all kinds of promises about getting the stuff done.

Meanwhile, I took all that energy from the hot chocolate and got the desk from the basement and brought it upstairs and the telephone people really came through in a pinch so our new person at least has a desk and a telephone.

Well, the week can only get better, right?

Oh Did... so sorry this happened!  At least Bossie was able to give them some crow to eat.  Can you imagine how insufferable this would have been without any documentation to back up your side of things???  Sheesh!  And the Ops guy is a boss??  Seems he needs a little more training on how to actually manage, since he didn't manage to even get his employee a desk.  Kudos to you for moving in a desk and getting her phone service... above and beyond for sure.

The week definitely has to improve from that type of a start.

So glad to see that this worked out in your favor, and especially that you have a boss that really backed you up!

*snerk*

Doncha love it when you blindside people by your oh-so-efficient CYA documentation, especially when they think they have you over a barrel and don't realize that you've documented the situation to an inch of its life....

I LIVE for moments like that..

(picture me with an evil grinchy grin).

I'm sorry for the new employee.  She seems to be pretty level headed and understanding about it.  If she's got any sense at all, she will realize what really happened (even if no one ever tells her outright).
