Title: Train strike - What will you do?
Post by: uberpa on June 22, 2004, 11:14:14 am
Well, as they are threatening a Rail and Tube strike next week I've been working out a contingency plan with my boss in case we can't get into work or we have to leave very early to get home.

Basically since he has a laptop and blackberry and mobile he can go to our offices in Buckinghamshire as it's not far for him to drive.  I on the other hand have no gadgets.   We do have a new and nifty internet version of outlook now which I can connect to from home.  So as long as I make a back-up of my hard drive and take home items I know I'll need I should be able to work from home.

Any one else planning ahead?

Whilst I know it'll cause a hell of a lot of problems, selfishly I'm rather looking forward to it .... other half works in London, and will not be going in.  So I might actually get something resembling an evening with him for once

Yes well I am looking forward to it as well, as working from home will be nice as i won't have to take off my jammies and can watch Andy Pandy :) I can also surf the internet without having to pretend I'm doing important research.  I feel an shoe-shop.com day coming on.

Our management team will decide on this later this week.  If both Tube and trains are out of action then very few staff will be able to get in.  Fortunately, we can divert our phones to other land lines and mobiles.  A lot of us  can take work home and have laptops or home computers to use for work away from the office.

I guess I shall just cross that bridge when I come to it.

eeghad.  We've just read in the paper that it's 6:30pm Tues thru 6:30pm Wed.  Which is very bad.  That's the day before our Annual conference and everyone will be travelling.  I can just see it now loads of MD's, Directors, Group Leaders, CEO etc stuck, stranded, delayed flailing about the countryside and poor little me stuck in Kent on the wrong side of the river and not able to help! :) so glad I don't have a car mwa ha ha ha
