Title: What makes a good role model?
Post by: lella on March 10, 2003, 12:52:27 pm
Hi all,

I work for a partnership and morale in our office is very low at the moment.  One comment that came up in a recent staff poll was that the partners were not very good role models.  We were asked (by a partner of course) to find out why this comment was made.  I want to draft a paper on WHAT MAKES A GOOD ROLE MODEL.  I do feel as partners they MUST be good role models as they are what all the professional staff in the firm would be aspiring to be.

Any comments on what you feel makes a good role model would be most useful.

Thanks a stack.

A role model must be willing to share his/her knowledge with the people that he/she supervises.

A role model should adhere to, and support corporate culture and policies and procedures at all times.

A role model should be willing to listen to concerns and to address where possible said concerns.

A role model for Administrative support staff should be  supportive of the job overall, and most importantly of those who are under his/her direct supervison.

A role model gives appropriate feedback without being demeaning or condescending.

A role model is aware of thier place as a role model and behaves appropriately within the workplace.

A role model for support staff should give constructive criticism when needed and praise without having to be prompted to do so.

A role model takes time to listen always and goes the "extra mile" when problem solving or interacting with both internal AND external customers .

Just a few that came to mind

Andrea

Hi Lella, though the discussion is over but just wanted to have a place in your paper with the following bit, which one way or the other is covered above:

Role model is an outstanding team player. Not only excels in her/his own area, always rising to the occasion, but also comes to the rescue of others
