Title: Michael Jackson Post by: gee4 on June 26, 2009, 08:31:11 am I always watch Sky News before going to bed at night and was glued to the tv when it was announced Michael Jackson had suffered a cardiac arrest.
My dad went the same way - very suddenly. From what I have learnt, people can survive a heart attack, but not a cardiac arrest. The world has lost yet another icon. I was only 10 when Elvis Presley died and I know how I felt about that. (Thoughts for Farah Fawcett and her family also). Title: Re: Michael Jackson Post by: Chatham Lady on June 26, 2009, 10:18:38 am Morning Gee
I too was shocked to hear the news from my husband this morning when I woke up today as I'd had an early night yesterday evening. It's always so sad to hear of well-know people going this way. I too was reminded about when Elvis died - I recall spending the remainder of the school summer holidays that year watching his movies on the BBC. A great shame too about Farah Fawcett who I remember from Charlie's Angels. She was also married to Lee Majors ("The Bionic Man") if I recall. Have a good day and a peaceful weekend. Title: Re: Michael Jackson Post by: JessW on June 26, 2009, 01:27:02 pm Gee
Too true, very sad. However, it is possible to survive a cardiac arrest. It is just a more technical way of saying heart attack. However, you would be right in saying that if he was at home on his own and had a cardiac arrest, and was not found for some time, then he would die from it. There is a window of opportinity in which the heart can be restarted, but it is very short and must be done before the brain suffers irreparable oxygen deficit which would definitely result in (brain) death. Not nice either way, but I was partly expecting it. Too many concerts cancelled which, perhaps, should not have been booked at all. Jess Title: Re: Michael Jackson Post by: gee4 on June 26, 2009, 04:49:54 pm Cardiac arrest can result from tons of things...allergic reaction, suffocation, etc. A heart attack can lead to cardiac arrest.
Heart attack refers to damage to the muscle of the heart, usually from a lack of blood flow. Most of the time a blood clot forms in one of the arteries that supply heart muscle with blood, blocking the flow of blood. Cardiac arrest happens when the heart stops pumping blood. Title: Re: Michael Jackson Post by: peaches2160 on June 26, 2009, 05:02:20 pm They are investigating possible allergy to a prescription he was taking. Apparently, from what I have heard, it could be an accidental overdose from a prescription. An autopsy is being performed. News reports say that his doctor was in the house at the time because he was ill and had been complaining of various symptoms. Just not one of the people you think will never be gone, like Elvis.
Title: Re: Michael Jackson Post by: gee4 on June 26, 2009, 05:10:03 pm Yeah and the doc has gone AWOL I believe!!
Title: Re: Michael Jackson Post by: peaches2160 on June 26, 2009, 08:39:14 pm It will be interesting to see if the true autopsy results are ever divulged. Ahhhh, another mystery of Hollywood.
Title: Re: Michael Jackson Post by: gee4 on July 06, 2009, 01:56:06 pm Hope all those in the US had a great 4th of July.
Are any of you watching the MJ memorial? Apparently it's being shown live via various news stations and online websites. Title: Re: Michael Jackson Post by: msmarieh on July 06, 2009, 04:59:18 pm Not me. No interest.

However, free passes tot he memorial that were won in the nternet lottery are being sold on e-bay for $1300 USD as of this morning. Something just does not seem right with that picture.
Title: Re: Michael Jackson Post by: duque on July 07, 2009, 07:44:28 am I my case, though no interest, if I want to watch TV tonight I will not be seeing anything else. Every single TV channel in Spain will be broadcasting it!!!!
Title: Re: Michael Jackson Post by: gee4 on July 07, 2009, 11:35:10 am Well I shall be watching. No matter what people thought of him, it's sad he never got to live the childhood we all deserve.
Fame comes at a cost for sure. The question is do you pursue the gift you were given or waste the chance of a lifetime? Title: Re: Michael Jackson Post by: gee4 on July 07, 2009, 08:21:14 pm What an amazing memorial. I am so glad I got to see this - very moving and emotional but at the same time enjoyable.
Title: Re: Michael Jackson Post by: spitfire78 on July 07, 2009, 08:53:20 pm duque, believe me in the U.S. it is the same. I have been scrambling to try to find ANY channel that isn't covering it to the nth degree. It's really ridiculous. I understand about the musical genius part, but for gosh sakes, the guy had a lot of problems that certainly in my eyes keeps him from being an idol or an icon of any type. If I hear the words "exclusive new video" one more time, I'm going to scream!!!
Title: Re: Michael Jackson Post by: diamondlady on July 08, 2009, 01:24:48 pm Spitfire, I'd have to agree with you. Anytime that stuff comes on, we switch the channel or better yet, turn it off. I'm tired of hearing the latest updates on his passing. It's sad yes, but, you know what, let him go. Let the families do what they need to, and take care of the kids. It's really sad now that they have a custody battle going on, when it specifically listed the grandmother as the primary caregiver, let her, and if the mother wants to help, then heck all the more help for her. No custody battle, really that's the worst on the kids.

His personal life has nothing to do with his memorial/funeral/passing. His personal life was hyped by the media. In fact in some recent documentaries it was said he invented stuff to see what the media would do with it. Like I say, people who judge don't matter and people who matter don't judge. Title: Re: Michael Jackson Post by: msmarieh on July 08, 2009, 05:38:49 pm LOL diamondlady, your phrase of the latest updates on Michael's passsing made me giggle. The Simpsons does a newscast running joke of that sort of thing, like "and in other news, Michael Jackson is STILL dead." Just made me laugh.

Title: Re: Michael Jackson Post by: diamondlady on July 08, 2009, 07:45:11 pm Yep, latest news update, still dead is right. Hubby is saying that all the time when latest news comes in. It is getting rediculous.

Title: Re: Michael Jackson Post by: peaches2160 on July 12, 2009, 03:30:50 am Latest news, the city of Los Angeles is taking donations to pay for the 1.8 million dollar memorial.
Title: Re: Michael Jackson Post by: duque on July 13, 2009, 07:35:29 am Sick ..... how about donations for homeless people????
Title: Re: Michael Jackson Post by: peaches2160 on July 13, 2009, 08:57:57 am Homeless, unemployed, food banks, Red Cross, the many charities he supported...............not a memorial.
Title: Re: Michael Jackson Post by: mlm668 on July 13, 2009, 04:40:34 pm My understanding is that the City of LA is looking for help in offsetting the costs of the police presence "required" by the event for traffic and crowd control. Asking for help is completely reasonable in my mind - if anything I think the family should be footing the bill. As it stands now, the cost is being covered by taxpayer funds that could well be used to fund schools, police training, etc.
Local law enforcement normally provides one car as an escort/traffic control to a funeral procession in our area to ensure travel from the mortuary/church to the gravesite without interruption. That cost is minimal when you look at the time and the probability that the car used is already scheduled to patrol that area. Compare that small cost to what the City of LA has had to put out for this memorial (cars, manpower, traffic control, etc.) that did not benefit all citizens of LA. Money that definately could have gone to benefit many citizens lost because of a memorial to a celebrity for his fans. That is what is sick. I assume the family planned this memorial, but they sure aren't kicking in to pay for it! If they don't get donations, it's going to end up back on the taxpayers, who are already strapped to the max. I believe (and I could be wrong) the donations are to pay for the extra city services that were provided (police, fire, etc.). Frankly, I think the family and the entertainers who managed to get face time should kick in and cover the cost.
Title: Re: Michael Jackson Post by: jennika on July 16, 2009, 03:39:31 am Regardless of people liking him or not liking him. I wish the media would leave move on. Let those who loved him grieve and keep his kids out of the media. I can't believe how many people want to exploit the kids. I know this is preaching to the choir, but the media needs to move on to it's next story.
