Title: Re: Lunch Time Poll Post by: radaro on May 10, 2001, 10:38:36 am Ew, kewl! I am the first one to vote and look, 100% of the people who responded "brown bag it".
Title: Re: Lunch Time Poll Post by: solargal on May 10, 2001, 10:52:14 am I stay inside the office during lunch. I usually bring one of those frozen lunch-size meals and bring a piece of fruit. I consider myself very thrifty (cheap)!
Title: Re: Lunch Time Poll Post by: winkiebear on May 10, 2001, 11:01:03 am Ooooh, I love going out to lunch, and the area I'm at has a great variety if restaurants.
These days, though, I've been bringing SlimFast for lunch... I've been pretty good... Title: Re: Lunch Time Poll Post by: bohorquez on May 10, 2001, 11:20:52 am Nevermind I'm broke half the time! But I still continue to go out for lunch! :)
Ideally I would to brown bag it but I have determined myself to do it Title: Re: Lunch Time Poll Post by: chris68 on May 10, 2001, 11:43:00 am Most of the time I like to brown bag it when the weather is nice cause the girls go walking around the building for the second half hour of lunch, so when you brown bag you have more time to walk. If you eat out, sometimes we don't walk.
I've been getting into the McDonalds fruit and yogert parfaits and the chicken salad shaker is wonderful. Sometimes we go to the mall to our food court or we go to our local sub shop, wonderful itailian subs on a nice hot day, yummy. I'm off today so I guess I can sit out on my patio and soak the sun for the afternoon. Chris68 Title: Re: Lunch Time Poll Post by: donnap99 on May 11, 2001, 12:15:07 am What's lunch?
I'm still at my desk; I try to pack (usually a frozen Budget Gourmet-type meal), but when I don't I usually just skip lunch. Rarely I'll break down and spend $3 for a cheapy sandwich. Prices are SO rediculous when you think of how much it woudl cost you to make it yourself. SolarGal - I'm with you -- frugal! Title: Re: Lunch Time Poll Post by: bethanial on May 11, 2001, 12:28:35 am I bring my lunch more than I go out. We're only allowed 45 minutes for lunch if we go out (30 if we brown bag it), and there's really not much variety since I work out in the boonies. But there is a pretty good mom and pop place down the road that does a lunch buffet, and a mom and pop bbq place a little farther down the road. Fast food is the farthest away, but almost everybody does it on Friday since there's a Wendy's right next to the bank.
Title: Re: Lunch Time Poll Post by: officeduchess on May 10, 2001, 01:07:00 pm I'm really lucky because I get to walk home for lunch! So, I guess I'm a leftovers person.

Also there is so much food around the office, I often don't even hafta worry about lunch--like this week, someone brought in a big pan of lasange one day , we had our monthly birthday party--which is more like a brunch--and tomorrow we're having a potluck BBQ! No wonder I have put on so much weight since I started working here! oof!
Title: Re: Lunch Post by: spanishgal on May 10, 2001, 04:47:01 pm I pack my lunch along with my husband's. About once a week though we grab some fast food. I work near him so we usually have lunch together.
Title: Re: Lunch Post by: yankeestarbuck on May 10, 2001, 08:39:41 pm Either bologna and American cheese or peanut butter and grape jelly, white bread and a golden delicious apple. I am very Ernie and Bert about my lunch cuz I'm annoying. I hate to try and decide, since Midtown Manhattan has so much. So, I have no choice, just what's in the house.
Title: Lunch - Free Post by: ssc1208 on May 11, 2001, 09:16:07 am I'm very lucky, because my company supplies lunch to everyone for free.
Though sometimes different groups go out for special occasions, or just to get away. If it weren't free, I'd probably be a mix of eating out/brown bagging it. Title: My lunch Post by: adassistant on May 11, 2001, 01:51:21 pm My husband and I normally take turns making our lunches. I can't see both of us spending about $10 a day. For us, that would wind up costing us about $120 a week because my husband has to work both Saturdays and Sundays a lot. So I eat my sandwich around 11:30 or so and then leave the office for a little over an hour (shhh! it's only supposed to be an hour!) at 12:15 or so. Since my mother lives about 10 minutes from my work, I drive there and exercise on my Cardio Glide for 20 minutes, bathe, and drive back to work. My husband wants me to bring my machine home, and I say no way, this is so convenient for me, and it's when I have the most energy! It doesn't hurt that I watch Port Charles during that time too.
Title: Re: My lunch Post by: chris68 on May 11, 2001, 02:36:40 pm I sometimes get the opportunity to go home at lunch. I only live 4 miles away from work but I still bring my lunch cause I find myself running late coming back from lunch. It's very hard when you are home and KNOW you have to go back to the office. On rare occasions hubby will have the day off and I don't and that makes it even more hard to come back to work after lunch break.
I too use to watch Port Charles when I first started going home for lunch. Now that the nicer weather is here, I will be walking outside after I eat my packed lunch. Today was McDonalds Salad Shaker day, yummy. Now that they have those fruit and yogert parfaits and salad shakers, I'll be stopping in there more often than I used to, forget the greasy cheesburger, salad yum. Besides a short drive in the wintertime makes it really nice. Sometimes if its nasty it will take me a 1/2 hour or more to get to work even if it's only 4 miles. TGIF! Chris68 Title: Lunchtime! Post by: Katie G on May 14, 2001, 07:19:29 am Oooh, I made lasagna last night so I had leftover sauce and mozzarella cheese and the heel of the loaf of Italian bread which means....PIZZA KIT FOR LUNCH!!!
Some angel brought in a toaster oven for the office as an addition to the microwave. I put some sauce in a ziploc bag, cheese in another ziploc, today I sliced a mushroom to add, and a slice of the bread. Assemble in the office, put in the toaster oven for a few minutes and MMMMMM! Only four hours to go 'til lunch! Title: Re: Lunchtime! Post by: dedlered on May 14, 2001, 08:20:49 am Did,
You are making me hungry and it's on 7 here.. Sounds like a great lunch, me I am having a salad, trying to get thinner. Have a wonderful Monday. Laura Title: Lunch Post by: jlkee on May 14, 2001, 09:38:51 am I usually pack my lunch, but today I'm going to have to buy it because.....I forgot it at home! It's BBQ chicken and seafood pasta salad, and I was all ready to relax & enjoy it, and then realized that I FORGOT IT!!!!!!
Whatever else I get is going to pale in comparison..... Title: Re: Lunch Time Poll Post by: sisterg on May 15, 2001, 12:00:31 am Like officeduchess, I go home for lunch. I can't walk it, but I drive and it just takes a few minutes. I get an hour for lunch. I either pop a frozen lo-cal meal in the microwave or graze the leftovers. If I'm organized, I even start preparing dinner. If I'm "super" organized, I get dinner in the oven and set timed-bake and dinner's ready when I get home from work. If I feel really "Suzy-Homemaker-ish" (Is that a word?) I'll put in a load of laundry, pay a few bills or clean a bathroom. It's amazing how much you can get done when no kids or hubby are around!! To be honest, I don't work this hard at lunch every day. Sometimes I just lounge with a book.
Title: Salad Shakers Post by: cocookie on May 14, 2001, 06:07:03 pm I like to bring my lunch but then I have the problem of where to eat it other than at my desk; I hate having people talk to me when I've just taken a bite.
I agree with the people who like McDonald's Salad Shakers, but I havent' figured out a good way to eat the salad. I found it impossible to mix the dressing on the salad and eat it from the "shaker." My best plan has been to dump it all out onto a plate. How do you do it? Title: Re: Salad Shakers Post by: chris68 on May 14, 2001, 09:10:35 pm My trick with the salad shakers is to use ALL of the salad dressing and pour it on the top of your salad, put the cover on and shake it a few times and you are all set. Only thing is you'll have to get some of the toppings off the cover, but otherwise seems to do a good job of getting the salad dressing all the way down to the bottom. My favorite is the chicken salad, lots of chicken, yummy.

The cafeteria in the building isn't great, but it's what feeds me (and I don't consider it fast food - anything but!!)
Title: salad shaker trick worked Post by: cocookie on May 15, 2001, 04:08:17 pm Chris,
You got me hungry for a McD's chicken salad, so I had one today. Your trick with the dressing worked. Thanks! cocookie Title: Re: Lunch Time Poll Post by: sungoddesslv on May 16, 2001, 04:43:45 pm There is a group of us that go to lunch together almost every day. Today we numbered 14...most days it is 7 to 9. We rotate between a pub (great chef salad), a deli (Jason's - excellent sandwiches), Metro Pizza, Mexican restaurant, etc. Only occasionally do we go to a Pizza Hut or Wendy's.
