What is the longest time you have worked for a company?  Are most of your jobs long term, or do you tend to move around more then staying put?

5 years is the longest, but only because I chose to move on.  I could have stayed.

Depends on how you measure it.

I've been with the overall organization for 11 years, but it was 5 years in one division, 5 in another, and I was just moved back to the first division (as a way of saving my job when my department was dissolved.)

Prior to that I was 5 years at a small business and 2 years teaching. 

I like stability!

I think 4-5 years for me, and like gee, usually I leave because I move on (although they did shut down my division one time).  I tend to need new challenges.

8 years - but not in the same job (in fact I held 5 posts over that period) ... I could have stayed and developed into post 6 BUT an episode of bullying poisoned the company for me and I needed out ... so relocated to Scotland  :)

Update to my initial reply....

The answer to the second part of your question is no, I don't tend to move around unless I have to eg. when faced with redundancy.  Of course it's best to find temporary work in between permanent jobs but that doesn't always happen immediately.  I would have preferred not to have ever faced redundancy but didn't have a choice.  Although my current post is permanent, I cannot say it's forever, as no job is permanent these days.

No, it is it the same.  If I had, I would have changed then to than! :-P (just noticed that)

 ;) When I was paid off on being made redundant, they had to pay be 9 years worth! however that did include 4 different jobs even though my job title stayed the same and the work didn't vary that much (except for QS stuff to legal QS stuff!)

10 years.  Three of these in one position and the other 7 in another.  Really miss that company - left to me I would have stayed for the rest of my life...... but redundancy claimed me  :(

13 years at current position...time flies when your having fun....

28 years 5 mos and counting.  It is not all in the same role though.  Not all Admin Asst roles.  I have had the opportunity to work in various roles that have helped me build my skillset for the role I have now, EA.  By the way, the company names have changed throughout the years due to mergers and acquisitions, but my service years count.

I worked 11 years at my first real job, with various transfers and promotions.  I am in my 10th year with my current employer.  I am loyal to my company when treated well.

Loyalty and trust are key factors.

I have been here 7 years.    Besides temp jobs the shortest time at a job was 4 years.

15 years.  It was my 2nd job.  I'm currently in year 12 of this job.  Hopefully I'll break my 15 year record.

duque, I can say I have certainly had alot of change managment experience, still experiencing it:)  Congrats!

My longest time was just over 10 years, all in the same department but last three of that was a slight move-up so I had someone reporting to me.  The shortest permanent position was three months, then eight months.

23 years and counting.  During that time I've moved to various locations within the Company (we have three sites all fairly near each other) and for the past 20 years have worked with my current boss.

I was in one job for eleven years.  My shortest time in a post was six months, but that was my first admin post and it was not a good fit either for me or the company. 

I am fortunate in that I have never been made redundant to date and all my moves, apart from my first job, have been to take up a promotion. 

7 years for me..... and only left as I was made redundant....

Joined straight out of college - 7 and a half years with the same organisation, but have had 7 different jobs (moved positions regularly by choice, and am still here).   Wow, put like that I really have moved about a bit!  ;D  I think the experience in the different sections of my organisation has really helped me with what I do.  So far it has worked out well for me - and the organisation too.

It'll be 20 years this September.  Before joining this organization, I never spent more than three years at one company; for several years I worked for a temporary agency.
