Title: New rip-off merchants or old game to new tune.
Post by: JessW on July 01, 2008, 01:45:24 pm
I was surprised to received this today, so rang Fedex who tell me it is a new scam being sent round!  Some people have no honour!  I am really miffed now .

Here it is, just don't do it!!!

I wish to inform that I have dropped your ATM MASTER CARD worth
$800,000 USD with FedEx Delivery Services. Insurance and delivery charges
have been paid for, but the only fee remaining is the security safe keeping
fee of $230 USD which you will be required to pay before delivery. I did this
because I was unable to make the funds transfer to your home account in
your country. I have Travelled  out of Nigeria to Switzerland  for a period of
4 months to see my boss

However, this was not paid for because of demurrage. Well, I did forward
them your delivery address, but a re-confirmation is important and when
contacting, I advise you quote the parcel and shipment code to them for
onward delivery to your re-confirmed address. The ATM MASTER CARD
has pin number 8876.
Forward the following when contacting FedEx Delivery Services

Your Name, Your Delivery Address, Your Phone Number and code below.

To be honest I can't imagine anyone falling for something like that, but sadly, I am surprised daily with how trusting (gullible?) people can be...

What really narks me is that they must have bought my email address from some sick so-and-so who was making money from it.

Luckily, I was caller No. 8 to the real Fedex and so something may be done to stop the creeps before we have another 'send your business card to the terminally ill boy who died decades ago' and all the other scams out of Nigeria and other places.

I get them all of the time telling me that some unknown family member "rich" family member died and left me money.  I think I've had 15 rich dead uncles who lived in Africa.  I just delete them.

Sorry, forgive me, but I really didn't understand what happened here.

Did Fedex charge something to your account?  It doesn't make sense so I guess I wouldn't have fallen for it!!

Poor English, suspicious email address and best of all the mention of Nigeria.  Enough to make you very sure it's spam.  You should also report to your ISP so stop any more coming through (or your company IT dept if received at work)

Gee
I got an email pretending to be from fedex trying to deliver a some sort of pre-paid credit card up to $800,000 but unable to unless I pay $120 to them immediately.
Fedex had nothing to do with it, just their name being used.  however, as I have a Fedex account I was slightly worried they had been selling my details or one of their employees had been selling my details!  I have now come to the decision someone sold my details but don't quite know who or when etc.  Either way, that was one email that went straight into my dd dustbin (after I copied the sense of it and rang Fedex!)

Ah now I understand.  I thought it was just a scam email but since you have a Fedex account, I guess you were right to be concerned.
