I just wondered how many of you plan to watch Obama's inauguration both in the UK and US?

Is it a normal day at work for those of you in the US or is it a holiday?

I think I saw Clinton's inauguration on the news when he was sworn in, but haven't watched any live ceremonies.

Do those of you in the US celebrate or tend not to bother?  

Gee, Inaguration day is not a holiday here, it's a normal working day for us.  I probably will not be watching it.  There will be tons of coverage on the television, and I'm sure replays of it over and over on the news.  That will be more than enough for me.

I will be at work that day.  But even if I was home I would probably not watch, unless I was sick and looking for something to put me to sleep!  Inaugural speeches tend to be long and boring - although I heard something about Obama wanting to keep it short - we'll see.  

One thing I will say is that the man gives a good speech that can really excite a crowd.  The question is whether or not he can do more than just speak.  And that can only be detemined in time and certainly not on inauguration day.

I'm way too cynical about politics and politicians to get excited over any one person being the end all and be all.

I'll be at work and likely only scan the highlights... Don't really care about inauguration speeches - never have watched them...

Not a big deal for me either.  Our company's intranet will be running a live feed but I probably won't view it unless there is nothing else going on.  I'm really against any sort of government waste, and a big ceremony just for one man to get to work on his new job doesn't sit well with me.

I read yesterday there is a huge concert planned a day or so before hand with some very big names on the line up.  Don't remember any other president-elect getting such treatment or maybe it's just me.

I will probably catch the highlights on the news.

No.  It will be re-run "ad nauseum" on TV.  

It is history in the making and I WILL be watching!  Can't be complacent in this economy.  The whole world will be watching this new preisdent.

Apparently his waxwork dummy is already in Madame Tussaud's in London!

Chikky I agree that we certainly can't be complacent.  I hope no one took my comments to mean that I don't care, because I do.  But in my own opinion, it is not what happens on inauguration day that means anything but what happens in the days, weeks, months, and years to come.

Touchy subject - politics.  I will not be watching the inaguration- sour grapes here not my candidate!  Not really, I didn't watch the inauguration for Bush who I did vote for, either.  I'm more interested in results than who wore what to the party and what speeches are made.

I won't be watching the inauguration, but like everything else newsworthy, I will catch the highlights over and over again on all the news and entertainment stations.  I did not cast my vote for President Obama, but I do hope he's got what it takes to help turn our country around and I wish him and his family all the best.

What amazes me is the rock star/movie star regime surrounding this inauguration -- all the actors, musicians and talk show hosts ready to put in their 2 cents worth.  Their personal opinions do not influence me except maybe to sway my beliefs in the opposite direction because it gets so annoying.

I have to say it was great to see the crowds at the Lincoln Memorial for Obama's pre-inauguration concert.

I used to work for a US company whose headquarters are in Washington.  We were lucky enough to be invited during our first year of employment to the company's Christmas party.

Looking back on all the attractions we visited during our time there, I appreciate seeing it on TV again over the past few days.  I'm sure today will be a piece of history to be remembered.

Hi, just want to say I got home in time yesterday to hear Obama's inauguration speech.  What a fabulous ceremony and a great day to be remembered.

It was really enjoyable to watch it live and TV coverage lasted until well after the parades passed by the White House.  It was so emotional to watch but fantastic that I was around to see history being made.

I watched it too Gee, and was very awed by it all.  I just got annoyed by the constant references to the "first african-american" president.  Don't get me wrong, I am genuinely elated that there is a black president finally but his potential and ability will be a bigger measure of success than his colour.

As I say I do understand the historic importance of his colour, but now focus on what he can do and make the changes!

I know Callie but it is a big thing, not just for America, but for the rest of the world.  I guess everything will calm down in the next few weeks and months to come.

I didn't intend to watch it live, but decided to work from home and watch coverage.  I'm glad I did!  Truly felt like I was watching history take place.

There are events in history that I would love to go back in time and see happen in the moment, generations from now will look upon yesterday as one of those times.

I got in the car to drive home from work just as his speech was beginning.  So for my whole journey home I had his words in my ears - what a great speech!

Later on, I saw the end of the lunch and the very start of the very late parade.  I saw a bit of the parade where they walked the last bit, as per tradition, this morning on the news.

I guess the smart thing to have done would have been to order a copy of today's Washington Post from the international newsagent here and then squirrel it away for the future!!

I watched the whole thing including the balls.  I actually cried.  It was awesome!  Now let us hope he can do what he says!  

Well he certainly is starting off with a bang. Wow!
