Title: Personality Profile Post by: peana on July 30, 2003, 09:27:07 am Had a long chat with bossie last night as he is concerned about some of the guys in his management team. He's planning to discuss the issues he has with them directly, but in the meantime has asked me to do a personality profile for them. Bossie genuinely wants to get to the bottom of the problems these guy's have and offer them any training or support that they need, but wants an independent opinion on them.
He suggested I check the internet for information on this, so my first thought was to check out DD. Do any of you have advice? The company gets you to fill in a questionnaire and then a report is produced automatically.
It's usually very complete and gives you a good idea of strengths and weaknesses, and what jobs the person is best at. I was amazed at accuracy when reading the report on me. If the person agrees to do it, they are entitled a copy of the report. However our company never says you can have a copy! It's called Thomas International but I don't know much more about it. Maybe someone else knows about it or you can do a search on the www? Good luck B Title: Re: Personality Profile Post by: gerald_morgan on July 30, 2003, 03:06:35 pm Hi
You can reach Thomas International at http://www.thomasinternational.net I'm not familiar with their products, but there are many psychometric tools out there - many of which can be used for as little as a tenner a go. The DISC test (Dominance, Influence, Steadiness and Compliance) is probably the most widely used in recruitment, and would seem to be a pretty good indicator of the personality type and how a person would fit into a team etc. For a thorough explanation of DISC I suggest looking here: http://www.discusonline.com/UDISC/ Discus Online allow you to buy 1-off tests via the web - so its pretty convenient. PS: I'm not associated with any of these companies ;-) All the best Gerald tempz.com ltd Title: Re: Personality Profile Post by: bethalize on July 30, 2003, 03:52:38 pm I've done the Belbin test in the past and it can be quite good. http://www.geocities.com/monteeric/mypage.html has a link to an online one. It also has links to a couple of good articles that could be helpful. You need to know what to do with these results and you also need to consider that people can be fine on their own but have problems in combinations.

These tests are good if you want to know whether the person is a leader, a team worker, etc... Bea Title: Re: Personality Profile Post by: raindance on July 30, 2003, 10:11:39 pm I see a minefield here and potentially an abuse of people's rights.
Is bossie the head of the company? Are "personality profiles" routinely used in your company for everybody equally and is this use detailed in employment contracts/employment policies? Are the profiles just going to be applied to a selected few people who appear to have "problems". If that is the case, then are they going to be coerced into taking the profile tests? Who is going to conduct the profile tests? What happens to the results? Is it possible that the results may be used to dismiss these employees? You should suggest checking these issues out with your company's HR people and, possibly, lawyers. Sorry to stir the pot here, but I know what my reaction would be if my boss asked me to do something similar. My two bits. Raindance |
