Title: Steve Jobs - Just Curious
Post by: msmarieh on October 06, 2011, 05:04:32 pm
I'm just curious if the death of Steve Jobs is getting publicized and covered outside the US as much as it is inside.

Very much so, it has completely taken over the news/twitter trends

Why is that strange?  He was known world-wide.

Who said it was strange?

Just because he was from the US doesn't mean other parts of the world don't get news.

My first computer was an Apple, I got my first job because I knew how to use an apple.  My phone is an iphone and I use an ipad almost everyday.   Where would I be right now, if it wasn't for his vision and implementation of his ideas.  RIP Steve Jobs.

I guess there is no awareness in the US generally of what news from there is reported here.  It's quite a lot!

And of course the death of Steve Jobs - what a visionary! - is being reported.  I am probably one of the few people who doesn't have an I-anything or use an Apple Mac, but that's not to say I'm unaware of these.

It's a sad end for him, and too young to die.  I'm sure he would have had a lot more to contribute had he lived, and a bit ironic on the day that the new iphone was announced (here in the UK at least).  But his legacy will surely live on.

Again, gee, who said they didn't?

I just wondered how widely covered the story was... And since I am not outside the US, I asked.

Who said other parts of the world don't get news? With the internet, we're pretty much all connected 24/7 globally.

Well of course.  You're the one who claims to be socially savvy so I thought being on fb and Twitter you would have known this stuff.

You can also read the UK newspapers online too.

But sometimes it is nice to get a response from a live person who is actually there, versus guessing from an online news posting.

We know who Steve Jobs is on the other side of the Atlantic!  It's in all the papers and on the news too!

Newsflash back to you gee... Unlike many Americans, I don't assume the world press revolves around American news stories, which is why, rather than making assumptions, I just asked a question I was curious about.

Hard to believe there's life outside the US, is it?

Good lord, gee, what has got your knickers in a bunch today? I asked a simple question. Quit looking for insults where none are intended.  I'm well aware that there is life outside the US, but that doesn't mean I think everyone who lives outside the US spends their lives reading about what happens here.

Anyone see the movie Bad Boys?  Wooo-saw!

No one really knows at first just how wide information spreads.  It is funny "I" was thinking to myself (before I saw this post) I wonder if it is just the Silicon Valley/San Francisco Bay Area that had it announced or if it was as big as news deal all over.   Of course it is big here.   :-) well, I have my answer to that!

MODERATOR'S HAT ON

Ok ladies, that's enough;  if you continue this thread will be locked!  As has been said before, if you can't be nice, don't say anything.

This is getting a little heated over something simple.  People are entitled to ask how a news story such as this is being handled in other parts of the world.

If, however, others have a valid point to make about Steve Jobs, his death, how it's reported, the amendments to the Apple logo appearing on Facebook etc in his memory, then please do so.

In Germany it was in the news, on almost everey channel. The "Steve Jobs glasses" were a German product, and are sold out here.
