Title: Don't know what to do Post by: RobertaT on October 26, 2016, 03:56:36 am I started a new job a while back. I keep thinking it will get more busy. I come up with busy work, I have improved process and doing a good job in what I do and have been given. Ok with all that I am still so bored! There are days I feel like I will fall alseep at my desk. I keep thinking it will busier but it doesn't! I have talked to my manager and get little projects. I would like to wait at least a few years, I don't like job jumping but not sure if I should. Would you keep a job that for the most part shouldn't be a full time job. Any suggestions?
Title: Re: Don't know what to do Post by: MsHelenaH on November 16, 2016, 02:27:56 pm If you have already drawn attention to your managers that you don't have sufficient work, then you really have done all you can possibly do, but maybe you could also keep trying to expand your job profile. If there is genuinely no prospect of increase in workload over the year, then you perhaps ought to consider moving on. Keep the job whilst you are looking because a salary coming in is important these days and it seems "easier" to find a job whilst you still have one with the job market being what it is. You can also always try to improve your skills during the periods when you don't have much work. Good luck!

If your manager can't find work for you and I've you checked other avenues, I encourage you to consider returning to school or pursuing certifications and using your downtime to study (with permission of course).
You could also look to see if there might be brand new responsibilities you could take over at work. Naturally this would depend on your company, but areas to look at would include web site maintenance, social media updates, blog posts, writing an employee newsletter, etc. This can lead to new areas of responsibilities, future promotions and expanded skillsets that will serve you well in the future. As much as I can understand why, I can't afford to live on 1/2 time. It is time to bring out the resume again. I just hope I can find something new before they cut the hours.

You might also start looking around for another part time job or consider this a great time to strike out on your own with a new business, such as becoming a virtual assistant. That would be an awesome way to ease into it.

I just keep falling farther and farther behind and .. just don't care any more. I do the best I can and do as much as I can. When I get yelled at for not doing something, I let it slip on by. I did almost lose it the other day but stayed professional.
