Title: What is the most time consuming task you do?
Post by: susan silva on July 07, 2014, 04:15:19 am
Hard or not, what takes up most of your time at work?  Calendaring? Phone?  Managing Meetings?  Excel? Word docs?  Let us know!

Hands down, it's managing the calendar and meetings.  And my department has a number of meeting-addicts.

Accounts payable, the program just doesn't work for me.  Should be a no brainer process:
Code, approval, scan to ap.  Break in flow chart, scan process fails repeatedly.  Multiple scans to send documents.

Definitely managing meetings for me. Bosses have no idea how time consuming it can be to schedule back to back sessions among 20 different groups.

Weekly minutes to team meeting. 6 pages long and always updates until last minute. Same for monthly occupiers minutes.
If I found a new job do not want to write minutes any more. Boring and exhausting.

Travel planning.  Doesn't matter if its a short or long, multi-stop trip - the travelers ALWAYS seem to think there must be a better flight option that I am somehow hiding from them.  I've been very tempted to yell:

- NO, you cannot sit IN the cockpit with the pilot!
- NO, I am not paying $3,000 more so that you can arrive half an hour earlier!
- NO, your 300 frequent flyer miles to NOT allow you to upgrade to first class
- NO, there is no secret, non-stop flight from Mexico City to Munich that leaves at 11 am and arrives at 5 pm
- and finally - NO, I do not have a contact at the airline who I can call to waive your change fee as a special favor because you decided to change your flight so you can attend a concert (I actually have to say that a couple of days ago).

This is the most time consuming and frustrating part of my job.

Answering the main line.  Just when you think it will be calm and you can get that project done, someone calls that takes 15 minutes to work with!

Managing multiple calendars.   I spend more time juggling meetings than anything else.

Planning meetings takes most of my time.  We have about 5 a year from 20 people to 300!  Juggling between the big ones that take more time and the small ones that are easier is where most my time goes.  Second is managing daily meetings!
