Title: 2014 Goals - Any Plans?
Post by: msmarieh on January 13, 2014, 10:05:01 pm
I have been pondering my goals for 2014. I have a number of them in mind. I was very happy to reach and often exceed my 2013 goals. Many of those were educational in nature. This year, many of my goals are more financial in nature. It's a much shorter list than usual, but one that will require consistency and action.

Brainstorm and explore ideas to generate money online and from home. My goal is to make at least $500 a month in "extra" income (which will all be legal and report on my income if anyone is wondering) :)

Ideas include:
  • - Lead a CAP and/or OM Study group - (Scheduled for Jan. 2014-May 2014)
  • - Lead a monthly Microsoft Office study group (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook rotation) - want to begin in Feb. 2014,  may delay depending on how much time the OM study group takes up
  • - Hold a series of webinars on various technology, career and professional development topics
  • - Write a series of booklets to publish on the Kindle

Submit an article to publish in OfficePro or other magazine
Sit for Registered Parliamentarian Exam (Carryover from prior year, Goal: complete by May 31, 2014)
Consider writing CAP exam study guide (cliff notes version) (Will revisit after I see if IAAP HQ creates one.)
Do one crafting project a month
Do one canning session a month
Organize and finalize the garage

MsMarieh you make me feel like a slug!  Like most I work full time, volunteer at two theaters, and have a small part time job as a test proctor.  No kids or pets at home, so I should have all the time in the world to set goals and meet them.  I'm going to keep mine simple:

Make a monthly donation to animal charity
Read one classic novel a month (I did this a few years ago starting with A - Austen need to move into the B's!)
Take one continuing education class a month such as Lynda.com (attending IAAP TEC14 this year)
Repair driveway
Move along on the garage building project
Organize and clean out basement again!
Continue tap dance lessons and decide on tap dance recital (really at my age!)
And one for the dh - get TR6 restored

Grrrrr.... Have I ever mentioned I hate the timeout feature on this site? I had typed this all up but took too long apparently and the site timed out and wiped it all out. Soooo annoying. So this time I am copying and pasting before I hit submit.

With 2014 winding down, I wanted to come back and update my progress on my goals. I didn't make all of them, but I have been DARN productive and got a lot accomplished this year. I think I actually would have accomplished more if I had come back to update this thread regularly during the year. This has helped previously and I think it would have helped to keep me on track. Something to remember for next year.

My goal last year was to make an average of $500 per month in extra income. I'm happy to say I actually more than doubled that amount this past year.

I led CAP and/or OM study groups (both 16 week long full study groups and 6 week long exam cram intensive review sessions). I also have been holding Advanced Techniques webinars and did some speaking engagements.

I didn't submit an article to publish. Guess I'll need to do two next year to make up for it. :)

I also didn't get my kindle materials written, but that is DEFINITELY on my list to get done still.

I didn't do a crafting project each month. One of my bigger goals for 2015 will be getting my crafting room set up. I'm taking over a spare bedroom.

I also didn't finish the garage, but I'm off this week, so I might work on that before year end.

I did do a LOT of canning.

Canning/OAMC Projects:
Jan - Freezer - ground beef, meatloaves
Feb - No projects
Mar - Canned: beef stock, chicken stock, chili
Apr - Canned: black beans, ham and beans, cuban black bean soup, white beans, chicken stock
May - No projects
Jun - Canned: V8
Jul - Canned: strawberry lemonade concentrate, cherry pie filling, cherry limeade concentrate, peach mixed berry lemonade concentrate, peach lemonade concentrate, peaches in syrup; Freezer: breakfast burritos, egg mcmuffin sandwiches
Aug - Canned: fermented kosher dills, deli dill sandwich spears, peach slices in syrup, bruschetta in a jar, peach pie filling, peach butter, salsa, peach jam (two batches), chili sauce, peach jelly, peach blueberry lemonade concentrate, barbecue sauce (two types), V8, peach raspberry lemonade concentrate, pineapple chunks, pizza sauce, blueberry citrus conserve; Freezer: shredded zucchini/squash, breakfast burritos
Sep - Canned: turkey stock, chicken stock, zesty salsa, green tomato hot dog relish, salsa verde, green tomato chutney, chili; Freezer: egg mcmuffin sandwiches, caramelized onions, cooked ground beef, lasagna mix
Oct - Canned: Chicken chili, applesauce, apple butter, beef stock; Freezer: Chicken a la king, cooked round beef, meatloaves
Nov - No projects
Dec - Christmas Cookie Baking!!!

So overall I am very pleased with what all I accomplished, even though I didn't meet every goal.

Now to start working on my goals for 2015!

Give back to peers (and post here)
Loose 2 pounds a month (I think that is realistic and obtainable, more would be better)
Create a plan to be happier in my work life
Donate extra household .. stuff to charity
Be more "green"
